Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine and Pixie Lott lead the nominations for this year's BRIT Awards.  The female trio each received three nods when the shortlist was announced for this year's ceremony, which takes place in London next month.

Florence Welch is nominated in the British Female and British Album categories. She will also go head to head with Pixie Lott for Breakthrough Act.

Pixie, 19, is also nominated for British Female, as well as British Single for 'Mama Do'. Lady Gaga leads the way in the international categories, nominated for International Breakthrough Act, International Female Solo Artist and International Album for 'The Fame'.  Other nominees include La Roux, Mika, Eminem and Rihanna.
